
Why Most Industrial Heaters Die in Wet Environments (and How We Fixed It)
If you’ve ever run a factory or a wash-down area, you know the drill. You buy a standard infrared heater, plug it in, and a few months later, it’s dead. Usually, it’s because water snuck in somewhere, caused a short, or just rusted the heating element into oblivion. It’s frustrating. We got tired of seeing that happen, so we built our heaters to an IP65 standard. In plain English? We made them bulletproof against splashes and fog.
Dealing with Water and Fog
When we talk about IP65, we’re talking about keeping the gunk out. We use high-temp silicone gaskets to seal the electrical joints and housings that don’t care about corrosion. It basically stops moisture from creeping into the wiring where it doesn’t belong. But water isn’t the only enemy. Then there’s fogging. If your shop has wild temperature swings, you’ll see condensation build up on the quartz tube. That’s a recipe for disaster. When that moisture hits the heat, it can cause “thermal shock,” and your expensive glass tube just cracks. To stop that, we added special coatings and tweaked the airflow. It keeps the tube dry, which means the heat stays consistent and the glass stays intact.
The Catch (Because there’s always one)
Here is the thing: when you seal a heater this tight to keep water out, the heat has nowhere to go. Since the electronics are encased, the inside of the unit gets hot—faster than it would in an open-frame heater. You can’t just jam these into a tiny, closed cabinet and hope for the best. You need to give the housing some room to breathe. If you crowd them too much, you’ll trip the thermal cutoff, and your heater will just shut itself down.
What this means for your weekend
The best part? You stop spending your time swapping out burnt-out lamps. Since the environmental junk can’t get in, the heaters just last longer. They can take a beating in a humid plant or a spray-down zone without flinching. Just do me a favor: every six months or so, take a quick look at the seals. Extreme heat cycles can eventually wear down gaskets, and a quick check now saves a huge headache later.
