Chicken coops are brutal on equipment. Between the thick dust, the constant moisture, and that sharp ammonia smell, most heaters just give up. That’s why we build our infrared heaters to be waterproof—they’re designed to actually survive in the trenches. But the real magic happens when you stop flipping switches by hand and let a smart system take over.
How it actually works
Think of it as putting a “brain” between your power outlet and the heater. We use a simple Wi-Fi or Zigbee controller that listens to your sensors. When the air gets too chilly, the controller flips the switch. Just like that. The best part? Infrared is fast. Really fast. While those big forced-air blowers spend forever trying to warm up the entire room, infrared waves go straight to the birds and the floor. You hit a button on your phone, and the heat is there instantly. No waiting around.
The nitty-gritty stuff
You can’t cut corners on waterproofing. We use IP65-rated housings because moisture and electricity are a terrible mix. One quick tip: check your wiring. If you have a dozen heaters all kicking in at the exact same second during a cold snap, you’re going to trip your breakers. Make sure your setup can handle the total load before the first frost hits.
A few things to watch out for
Here’s the thing about “smart” tech—sometimes it’s too smart for its own good. If your router crashes or the Wi-Fi dips, you lose your remote control. Because of that,always install a physical override switchon the coop wall. It’s your safety net. If the internet dies, you can still keep your birds from freezing. And be careful where you put your sensors. If you tuck a probe too close to the lamp, the sensor will think the whole coop is boiling and shut the heat off way too early. Keep the sensors down at bird-level, tucked away from the direct glow of the heater. That’s how you get a read on what the birds are actually feeling.
