You know those old-school bathroom heat lamps? The ones with the big, bright bulbs that take forever to actually make you feel warm? We’re moving away from those. The new standard is IP65-rated infrared (IR) heating, and it’s a completely different experience. Dealing with the damp Bathrooms are brutal on electronics. Between the steam from your shower and the occasional splash, most heaters just give up. That’s where the “IP65” part comes in. Basically, it means the unit is sealed tight. Dust can’t get in, and water jets can’t find a way through. Without this, moisture creeps into the electrical terminals, causes a short, or just rusts everything out from the inside. IP65 keeps the guts of the machine bone-dry. Instant warmth Here is the best part: the heat is immediate. Old bulbs try to warm up the air in the room. That’s a slow process, and the heat just floats to the ceiling while you’re still shivering. Infrared is different. It sends out waves that warm you directly. The second you flip the switch, you feel it on your skin. We use tungsten filaments and quartz glass to make it happen. It’s fast. Really fast. Building things that actually last Because IR heating is so intense, you can’t just throw it in a cheap plastic box. It would warp or crack in a heartbeat. We use tempered glass and heat-resistant alloys. These materials can handle the “thermal cycling”—that constant jump from ice-cold to scorching hot—without breaking a sweat. Getting it installed If you’re renovating, these are great because they usually fit right into your old lighting grids. Just a heads-up: since they pack a lot of power into a small space, make sure your breakers can handle the initial surge when you turn them on. Once they’re in, they’re a total luxury. It’s the kind of detail that makes a bathroom feel high-end, mostly because you never have to step out of the shower into a freezing room again.
