When we’re building infrared heaters for bathrooms—especially the ones used for babies—the biggest headache isn’t actually the heat. It’s the light. If you’ve ever looked at a standard infrared lamp, you know that harsh, blinding glare. It’s a lot for anyone to handle, but for a newborn with sensitive eyes? It’s just too much.
Taming the Light
We figured out a way to fix this by changing how the lamp actually “behaves.” Instead of just letting the light blast out, we use special quartz coatings and specific filaments to filter out those aggressive, high-energy rays. We push the energy toward the mid-to-long wave range. The result? You get a soft, gentle glow. It feels cozy and warm, but it doesn’t hit the eyes like a spotlight. It’s not about making it look “pretty”—it’s about making sure we aren’t bombing a baby’s retinas with too much luminosity.
Warmth Over Brightness
Here is how it works in plain English: usually, when you get a heating element hot enough to warm a room, you get a ton of bright light as a side effect. We’ve tweaked these lamps to prioritize the infrared radiation—the stuff that actually sinks into the skin to make you feel warm—while dialing back the visible light. You’ll notice the lamp looks dimmer. That was a choice we made on purpose. We might lose a tiny bit of raw energy efficiency, but that’s a trade-off we’re happy to make to keep a nursery safe.
Getting it Installed
These are designed to be simple drop-in replacements for your IP-rated bathroom fixtures. Just a couple of things to keep in mind: make sure your housing has plenty of ventilation. And remember, even though the light is easy on the eyes, that quartz tube getsseriously hot. One touch and you’ll get a burn. Stick a protective grill over it or use a recessed mount so nobody can accidentally touch the glass while it’s running. Also, do yourself a favor and wire it to its own dedicated circuit. It stops the lamp from flickering if the voltage drops.
