
How to actually get more bottles out of your PET blower
If you’re running a mid-tier PET machine, you’ve probably hit that frustrating wall where you just can’t push the speed any further. You want more bottles per hour, but the preforms aren’t heating up fast enough or evenly enough to keep up. Here is the secret: you don’t need a brand new machine. You just need better heat. Swapping out your standard lamps for high-density infrared (IR) replacements is the fastest way to unclog your production line.
The trick to faster heating
It really comes down to how hard the lamp hits the plastic. We look at the wattage-to-length ratio. By putting a higher wattage tube into the same space, you get a much stronger blast of radiant heat. The plastic hits its melting point way faster. That means the preform spends less time hanging out in the oven and more time becoming a bottle. It’s simple, and it works.
Better coatings, less waste
Standard clear quartz lamps are okay, but they’re a bit scatterbrained. They throw heat everywhere—including onto your machine frame, which helps nobody. We use specialized coatings that “aim” the heat. They shift the spectrum so the energy goes straight into the PET plastic. It’s more efficient and keeps the rest of your gear from getting baked. And don’t worry about a massive teardown. We use R7s or SK15 connectors, so these are basically plug-and-play. You just pull the old tubes out and pop the new ones in. No rewiring required.
A few things to watch out for
Now, this isn’t magic. There are a couple of things you need to check first. If you’re jumping from a 1500W lamp to a 2500W one, your wiring and power supply need to be able to handle that extra current. If they can’t, you’ve got a problem. Also, your oven is going to get hotter. If your cooling fans are old, dusty, or just plain tired, you might overheat the housing. Give them a good clean first. One last tip: check your voltage. High-density filaments are sensitive. If your power is spiking, you’ll burn through these lamps fast. Keep your power clean, and you can finally crank up the machine speed without worrying about the heat catching up.
