
Getting the Heat Right on KOSME KSB 4000/6000 Lamps
If you’ve spent any time with PET blow molding, you know the headache of uneven heat. One minute everything is fine, and the next, you’re looking at wonky wall thickness or bottles that just won’t hold their shape. On the KOSME KSB 4000/6000, it all comes down to the heating lamps. That’s why we made our replacements a direct match for the original KHS specs. No hacking, no tweaking. You just pop them in and get back to work. The power side of things These lamps pull a lot of juice to get that infrared intensity needed to heat PET fast. It’s a brutal environment. When you’re picking a replacement, just make sure the voltage and wattage line up with your power supply. To actually get the heat to penetrate the preform wall, you need high heat density. But here’s the catch: that puts a massive amount of stress on the quartz. We use high-purity quartz because, frankly, the cheap stuff burns out way too fast. Why the “thermal field” actually matters You’ll see a lot of “premium” lamps out there, but the secret is usually in the filament. If a filament sags or sits off-center, you get hot spots. Simple as that. We focus on keeping that filament dead-center so the heat hits the preform evenly. We also use a specific coating that helps the PET absorb the energy more efficiently. It just works better. A few tips for the install We use standard connectors, so wiring them up is quick and painless. You won’t have to mess with your existing housing. But a word of caution: if you crank up the heat to kill off some cold spots, remember that the oven’s ambient temperature will climb. Make sure your cooling system can handle the extra load, or you might start cooking your electronics. One last thing. These lamps take a beating in high-cycle shops. Every few months, take a look at your contact points for oxidation. A little cleaning goes a long way in preventing voltage drops.
