
Stop the Stick: A Better Way to Cure Your Parts
Ever tried to stack spray-coated metal parts too quickly, only to find they’ve glued themselves together? It’s a nightmare. You’re fighting “blocking” because the surface is still tacky while the inside of the part is still cold. Most people try to fix this with standard convection ovens. But here’s the problem: heating up air is slow. In a high-speed line, “slow” means wasted time and ruined parts. That’s why we use short-wave infrared (SWIR) lamps. The trick is in the surface. SWIR doesn’t mess around with the air. It shoots energy straight into the coating molecules. This triggers an immediate “flash-off” of the solvents, creating a dry-to-touch skin in a matter of seconds. By the time your part hits the conveyor or lands in a stack, the surface is locked in. No more sticking. And the best part? You don’t need a massive, 20-meter oven taking up your entire floor. Speed comes with a catch. To get these kinds of results, we use lamps with high wattage density. It’s a ton of power packed into a tiny footprint, which lets you shrink your curing zone. But you have to be careful. Because the heat is so intense, your belt speed needs to be spot on. If a part hangs out under the lamp a second too long, you’ll end up with scorched edges or that annoying “orange peel” texture. It’s all about the timing. Getting it running. We built these systems to be simple. They’re basically drop-in replacements for those old, clunky gas burners. You just wire them into your existing control panel, dial in your dwell time, and you’re good to go. Since these lamps snap on and off instantly, you aren’t burning money by idling a giant oven all day. Just do me a favor: keep the quartz tubes clean. If dust builds up on the glass, you’ll get hot spots that burn out the filament way too early. Also, keep those reflectors polished. You want the heat hitting the metal, not your machine frame.
